Do my sisters have a right on my father’s Self Acquired Property. I am the only son and have 2 sisters both married. In the recent Supreme Court Judgement dated 11th August 2020, which said ‘Daughters have equal rights to inherit Joint Hindu family property’. Does this mean that daughters also have equal rights on their fathers Self Acquired Property?

Answer 1

Yes. Your mother, sisters and you will all have equal share in your father's self acquired property in the event that your father dies intestate (without a will). If he does make a will he may choose the beneficiary or beneficiaries and their respective shares.
